What if you had another identity you couldn’t remember? And what if you were suddenly thrust back into it ten years later?
New York Governor Tanner Thornburg cannot forget the day that still haunts him a decade later. It was the day he threatened divorce. It was the day his wife, Andra, mysteriously disappeared. Wracked with guilt and unanswered questions, he receives news that she’s alive—and living homeless on the streets of Detroit.
Andie, as she’s known on the streets, remembers nothing of Tanner or the life—and unhappy marriage—they once shared after a kidnapping attempt robbed her of her memory. Anxious to get off the streets, she returns to New York with Tanner and is thrust into a world of politics, fame and fortune foreign to her. Tanner finds himself battling his wife’s distrust and resistance—as well as his own growing attraction to this street-smart, spirited woman.
Tempers and personalities clash, along with a love thought long dead, as husband and wife, strangers to each other, learn to love and trust again and to right the wrongs made so long ago.
BOOK REVIEW OF THE GOVERNOR'S WIFE
By Veronica Grant House To this day, I still do not know who gave me this book. It has a big blue cover with a gorgeous front design on it. Then, I opened it. I read and read and read and read this book. I think supper burned but oh well because I wasn't going to put this book down. I brought this book to my book club meeting and of course, we assigned it a date. It was totally amazing because most of the same people said the same thing, “totally captivating.” I couldn't agree more.
Here’s the review:
Wow! What a talented author. From the minute you meet the main character Andra, she is a major meanspirited woman. Tanner Thornburg, her husband of some years has taken her out to a restaurant to ask her for a divorce. He's chosen this venue because he thinks she will make a scene and somehow the restaurant will stop her, after all there are all kinds of people in the high society within the restaurant.
She doesn’t care though. She makes a scene and abuses the wait staff terribly when he makes a little mistake. All of this negative action, Tanner Thornburg tries to reign in but he can't stop her and in a moment of high drama, he just blurts it out, “I want a divorce.”
For only a mere moment in this fast paced book, Andra lets us have a glimpse of her character. She isnegotiating with him, trying to keep him. When nothing works, she leaves the restaurant. Lately, there have been attempts at abduction and as Andra settles into the car, she finds out that her chauffeur and bodyguard are not going the right way. As she figures out the worst information she can, she realizes she is in trouble.
That’s it. We meet Andra later but she’s Andie, living on the streets of Detroit, barely keeping to herself and in need of medical attention for a cough. For these chapters, we are made to live her life on the streets where she doesn't even have a name and it's unpleasant to say the least. Suddenly, a chance encounter at the police station with a cop with attentive eyes changes the whole story. Rather than doing the whole down and out bit, instead, she is identified as the governor's wife. at the beginning of the book, he wasn't a governor. This is ten years later and now Andie has a choice to make. Come in from out of the cold or stay on the streets. I don’t want to give away the ending of course but this is a five star book all the way. The tension, the sexual tension, the drama, the violence peppered in with a social message make this book one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
If you have a chance, pick up a copy. You won’t be disappointed. Veronica House is a veteran book reviewer. For years, she reviewed books for her local newspaper. She meets with her book club monthly to discuss books.
READER'S REVIEWS
“I predict this author will be as big as Barbara Delinsky, Nora Roberts and all the other great storytellers. It's quite a book,” Ann, Barnes & Nobles website review
“I finished 'The Governor's Wife' this afternoon. It was a wonderful read…I was not ready for it to end,” Harriet
“I just finished reading the book and really enjoyed it. I am not the kind of person whose interest can be held with a book because I find myself thinking about other things I have to do. I have been trying to get into it more and I have to tell you…I am really looking forward to reading more of her books," Deanne “Keeps you interested from cover to cover. Gives you great depth in to the character as they struggle through their own thoughts. Highly recommended!!” A. Cordova “I saved this book for a weekend getaway. I am so glad I did! I was captivated from the beginning and had a hard time putting this book down even for a break...I wanted to get right back to it to find out what happens to the intriguing heroine,” Sara, Amazon review “Suspense, drama, romance and a character that you just had to root for. What else do you need! The book was hard to put down and kept your attention all the way through. It's a quick read that you won't regret,” David, Amazon review “The story was fast moving, easy to read and held your interest so you wanted to see what happens next. I enjoyed it thoroughly,” PJ, Amazon review “I like how the writer captured your attention from the first paragraph to the closing line. She made you feel for the characters and their struggles. The author really gives you a sense of what it is like for Andie to struggle with the loss of her memories and her past. Also, she shows how hard it is for Andie to trust those around her, especially after being homeless and then being thrust back into her “old” life that she can't remember. For Andie, trying to let go of her street smarts and the struggle of living day to day, are difficult to let go of back in her upscale life. This is definitely a book worth picking up. The author has a lot of talent and it comes through in this book,” Angelina, Amazon review “I really enjoyed the book. It had a great plot and kept you interested through the book. It was a good read and was hard to put down. It is a good love story and a story of hope to anyone who reads it.Everyone should pick this one up,” Buzzerd, Amazon review “I really enjoyed this book, I have to admit, I find it hard to sit down and just read without my mind wandering thinking about things I need to be done.
